Dennis P. Driscoll, P.E., Principal Consultant with Associates in Acoustics, Inc. will present a Keynote Presentation at the 2013 Asia Pacific OH Conference & Exhibition to be held 29-31 October 2013 in Singapore, representing AIHA. Mr. Driscoll’s talk will address Effective Hearing Protection Devices, Communication, and Fit Testing.
Abstract: Hearing conservation programs have continually evolved since their inception in the mid-1950s. Significant advances in electronics in the 1970s dramatically improved the instrumentation used to measure noise and worker noise exposure. In the 1980s the types and quality of hearing protection devices (HPDs) grew almost exponentially for more than twenty years. HPDs equipped with electronics to improve speech communication and warning signal detection began appearing in the workplace by the 1990s. The most recent and significant game change in preventing noise-induced hearing loss is the development of fit-testing methods, including in-ear dosimetry, to better determine the real-world performance of HPDs. This presentation will explore these advances in HPD technology and describe the devices available today to ensure effective communication and protection against high noise levels in the workplace.
In addition, Mr. Driscoll will also present a full-day workshop on Noise Control Engineering.
Workshop Description: The analysis and correction of noise problems requires a good understanding the principles of noise control. This workshop will describe these principles through a series of case histories. The student will learn how to conduct measurements for noise control, evaluate the data and identify the source, recognize the most effective noise control options, and select the appropriate acoustical products or materials for cost-effective noise control.
